Project Brief

Introduction:
Project Title:Jail Inmates Gilgit
Lead NGO:  Al Roomi
Partner NGO: Montage Women Development Centre
Target Group: Jail inmates
Location: Gilgit
  Objectives:

Main objectives of the project are

• Identification of the main Risk factors
• Assessment of present awareness and sensitization level of jail inmates about sexually transmitted infections and HIV and AIDS.
• Establishment of a proper referral services for treatment and proper screening for HIV infection.

 


Lesson Learnt:
Due to lack of interaction with society, jail
inmates have very low knowledge level
  regarding every aspect of life especially HIV and AIDS. Therefore more efforts are being needed to fill the educational gap of the jail inmates.

 

 


Achievements:

• Health seeking behaviour of jail inmates improved
• Stigma and Discrimination regarding HIV & AIDS and STIs reduced.
• Due to the project intervention a prisoner with in jail is provided better health facilities including barber services and individual shaving kits
• Jail authority and other key stake holders accepted HIV &AIDS as an issue of jail inmates
